April 2025

After Successfully Bringing Jimmy Jenkenheimer to its professional debut, Park Lytle felt determined to keep his momentum and begin the process of staging a new play of his own design. Emily Sombra in the Land of Phobos is Park Lytle's directorial debut under the Shackleton brand, a new one act adventure drifting away from the more absurdist tone of Jimmy Jenkenheimer and instead confronting themes of fear and loss through a more somber story. Park still ensures that Emily Sombra remains engaging, optimistic, and accessible to all audiences as is his rules set forth for any of his originally written productions.
As it currently stands, Emily Sombra is set to make its workshopped debut this April in the CalArts Coffeehouse Theater. Rehearsals continue to push forward as his cast of new and familiar faces make discoveries and choices that shape the very identity of this new work.
When Emily's mother falls into a coma with an uncertain fate, she is visited by her estranged grandfather, who offers an opportunity to save her. It is here where Emily discovers that her grandfather is in fact The Fear of The Dark, and to save her mother, she must travel with him to his homeland, Phobos. Emily must be brave in order to face the dangerous Fears that await her arrival and the unsolved questions of her past, but just who truly is a threat in Phobos? And more importantly, who is an ally?
